First aid requirements for door supervisors and security guards

by | Feb 22, 2021

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has announced changes to the level of first aid training needed for anyone who needs to get a front line SIA licence. The stricter requirements already apply to close protection officers but will also apply to security guards and door supervisors.

In summary, from April this year, anyone who wishes to operate as a door supervisor or security guard will need to have a valid first aid qualification before applying for a licence. From October, this will also apply to those in role who need to renew their licence.

As a minimum, this means having a valid Emergency First Aid at Work certificate. The more advanced First Aid at Work or First Response Emergency Care may be more suitable depending upon the type of work undertaken. We would be happy to answer any questions about your needs.

The SIA sees this as an important step in their drive to improve public safety. Further detail can be accessed from this link to the gov.uk website.
