Introduction to Fire Safety in the Workplace

Who is this suitable for?

This introductory session is recommended for anyone where there is a requirement to understand fire safety. It is ideal to use as part of induction for new staff members or as a stand-alone course.

It will help you and your business understand the risks of fire and the steps that can be taken to mitigate the risk of fire. 

How does it work?

This e-learning is available to use on multiple platforms such as tablets, PCs and laptops with an internet connection. For the best experience we recommend that you do not use on mobile phones.

Once registered, we will provide you with access to the Learning Management System (LMS) of our partners, Highfield E-learning, where you will be able to work your way through the course at your own pace, logging in and out as often as you want.

You will be assessed at the end of the course by a short multiple-choice question quiz.

Course syllabus

The course provides an overview of fire safety. It outlines from the very basics of how fire starts and spreads, through to risk assessments and managing risk, as well as outlining the legal obligations of different people in the workplace and their roles and responsibilities relating to fire safety.

The course is also ideal for employee inductions, as refresher training for existing staff or for those looking to go on to achieve a recognised level 2 fire safety qualification.

This qualification provides the knowledge and understanding of fire safety required for employees in low to medium risk workplaces.

The recommended minimum age for this qualification is 14 years.

When and where does the course take place?

Typically delivered over 3.5 hours (excluding breaks), this training can take place at your workplace on a date and time to suit you.

Course syllabus

This qualification provides knowledge related to fire safety in the workplace, including the need for safe evacuation.

1. Understand the hazards and risks associated with fire in the workplace.

  • List the elements of the fire triangle
  • Outline methods of smoke and fire spread
  • Give examples of how the risk of fire can be lowered in a workplace

2. Know how to use a range of fire controls.

  • List common fire controls in a workplace
  • Explain how to use a range of fire controls including:
         • Fire Exits
         • Fire Doors
  • Explain the importance of clear routes or travel
  • Describe how to use a range of portable fire extinguishers

3. Understand the importance of a prompt and safe evacuation of the workplace.

  • Outline the actions to be taken on hearing a fire alarm
  • Outline how a safe evacuation can be undertaken in a workplace
  • Outline how members of the public and visitors should be alerted to the presence of a potential fire

Award in Fire Safety for Marshals (Level 2 RQF)

Who is this suitable for?

This course provides the knowledge and understanding required for those acting as fire marshals in the workplace. It offers a comprehensive guide to best practice when it comes to fire safety. Ideal  for managers, supervisors, team leaders, fire marshals and staff working in any area where there is a potential risk of fire. This is a 6 hour course (excluding breaks) completed on the same day. Training can take place at your workplace on a date and time to suit you.
